Introduction to Permaculture Design
May 16th-18th, 2008
Cost: $200, sliding scale
Registration Form

TreeUtah and WasatchWoodsgrown are teaming up to present a weekend intensive course in permaculture design. Permaculture is a design science-based on the observation of natural systems, the wisdom contained in traditional farming systems, and modern scientific knowledge-for creating sustainable human environments. It empowers people to create systems that are ecologically sound and economically
viable which produce food, catch water, and create energy. This is based upon the
way we arrange and foster relationships between plants, animals, people, and buildings within the landscape. Permaculture intersects subjects ranging from ecology, history, geography, and community development to biology, technology, engineering, and communications.

Course participants will walk away with an understanding of ecological principles and design methodologies to create resilient and productive landscapes in a variety of contexts (urban, surburban, rural).

Course topics include:
Permaculture Principles and Ethics
Soil Building
Garden Design and Establishment
Perennial Food Systems
Integrating Plant and Animal Systems
Water Harvesting and Management
Green Building Design
Site Observation, Assessment, and Mapping
Broadscale Design and Pattern Understanding
Agroforestry
Developing Local Economies
And More
